| For a place in the semi finals of the UEFA cup. Since their brave march into Europe lots of football fanatics have a heart for the little club from Getafe. When their team has an important match, Getafe fans celebrate at the Cibelina statue in the town centre. In 2006/2007 they reached the final of the Spanish cup, the copa del rey. The mayor of the city told the fans to ´tear down´ the Cibelina upon victory, promising to pay for a new design!
Thousands of supporters came together to watch the match on a big screen at the central square. Though they lost the final 1-0 against Sevilla it was a moment of glory for the small metropolitan club Getafe CF.
They play their matches in a modern stadium which has opened in 1998. The Coliseum Alfonso Pérez has been named after a famous footballer who was born in Getafe. Strange fact is that he played for Real Madrid and never played for or against the local team.
