When you think of the capital city of Spain it would be Madrid. Since 1562 the city stands still and remains the center of business, contemporary ways of life and vibrant nightlife. Due to its location, Madrid has a climate during summers as warm dry and cools down during winter. The city of Madrid is said to be the city of incredible monuments and one of them are the medieval center which dates back to the Prado Museum and the Habsburg Empire.

Other interesting things to see in Madrid are its impressive plazas such like the following:

Glorieta de Bilbao – this plaza has a star shaped roundabout which is named after Bilbao city. The plaza Glorieta de Bilbao is famous due to the fact that it is a cross of popular streets such like the Carranza, Sagasta, Luchana and the Fuencarral. Today, it is one of the most important places when it comes to the city’s nightlife.

Plaza de Cibeles – features a neo-classical complex of marble sculptures, the fountains that it has here is the main symbol of Madrid. Paseo de Recoletos as the fountain of Cibeles is found in Madrid; it symbolizes the goddess Cibeles or Cybele. The fountain was said designed by Ventura Rodriguez in between. While the goddess and the chariot are the remarks of Francisco Gutierrez and it was Roberto Michel who worked on the lions.

Plaza de Santa Ana – a plaza particularly located in center of Madrid City. The plaza features some monuments to writer Pedro Calderon de la Barca, Spanish Golden Age, poet Federico Garcia Lorca and various cafés, restaurants and more.

Plaza de Colon – this plaza is situated in the Alonzo Martinez a district of Madrid, Spain. The fountain and the plaza itself honor the explorer Christopher Columbus. Within the plaza, there are so many views to see that you should not exempt if you are planning to visit here during your vacation at Madrid.

Plaza Mayor; one of Madrid’s best arcades

Do you know well the city of Madrid Spain? If not yet then we start with their historic palace of Plaza Mayor. This historical place nowadays is one of the most attractive spots in Madrid. The most visited parts of Madrid where you can see a lot of tourists wandering around. This grand arcade is exactly located in the main center of the city. Historically, this famous cloister was just a market. It was in the time of King Philips II who made this spot into a real square by the help of the famous artist Juan de Herrera. Eventually, King Philips III reign and it was in the help and instruction of Herrera still that the construction of the Plaza Mayor started.

For two years, the successor artist Juan Gòmez de la Mora was the one who continue to direct and made finally the plaza. It was a large square that measures about 120m long and 90m wide which is surrounded by wooden buildings. Unfortunately, the plaza was three times been destroyed by fire. The times the plaza was destroyed they renovated it, soon after the last renovation the façade of the plaza is what we see nowadays.

After those days the Plaza Mayor recently became the city’s center for festivities, royal coronations, executions and bull fights. Every event the Plaza Mayor catered of about 50, 000 witnesses. In this present time, Plaza Mayor still is the best location in Madrid for any celebrations. At the center of the square is found the statue of King Philips III a bronze statue which was constructed during 1616. On the other hand, Casa de la Panaderia is the most famous building in Plaza Mayor which is designated as the seat of the most powerful baker’s remorse. Today the pouring of tourists who travel and visiting Plaza Mayor is fast growing. But, if you were one of those tourists visiting Plaza Mayor never forget to book for your Madrid hotels because it might be hard to find one for you especially during the city’s peak season.

Palacio Real- Indeed a very touristy place. The massive building would impress your senses. An armory is also located here which collects medieval weapons. A very interesting place for the scientist and pharmacist worldwide is the Pharmacia which showcases very old medicine laboratories and medicines.

Plaza de Cibeles- this place hold Madrid’s crest- Cibeles’ fountain. You can also admire the world’s most wonderful post offices- the Palacio de las Telecopmunicaciones.

Catedral de la Almudena- this big cathedral is host the wedding of the royal blood Prince of Asturias Felipe with Letizia. A choice of the royalty? Must be a special cathedral to behold.

Plaza Mayor- the most famous plaza in Madrid. This place witnessed the unfolding of many events from bullfights to tournaments.

Templo de Debod- A temeple in Spain. Spain indeed never stops in its glory. An Egyptian Temple in Spain?! Just totally marvelous. Find out its history.

Puerta del Sol- the most throbbing tourist spot in Madrid. The famous bear statue is located here. This is considered as the heart of Madrid. For significant activities are hosted here like the yearly celebration of New Year broadcasted all over Spain is held here.
