I wake up in the sound of blowing horns in the 1st of May in a soft and comfortably made bed in a Madrid hotel in the middle of the heart of Spain’s capital. It was my second day in Madrid and it seems that this will spearhead the many festivals this month. The major festivals in Madrid in May are: Fiesta del Trabajo on May 1st; Madrid Day on the 2nd; and Dia de San Isidro on the 15th.

So, I got ready for a meeting an hour from now. As I went down the hotel, I noticed a festive and lively air outside the hotel. I intend to tour around Madrid after my responsibilities are taken cared of. The series of concerts and activities are going around starting today -Fiesta del Trabajo.

Right after a day’s tedious work, I went out to unwind and tapas hunt in the middle of this festival. The tapa in front of me is enticing me to pick him up; it was beautifully prepared and cooked croquettas. It was made of cheese, mashed potato, and with meat rolled and deep fried. Though I also tasted the tapa made of sautéed pig’s ears in olive oil and lots of garlic- strange yet very delicious. Tapas are Madrid’s revealed secret. I ended the day satisfied and full.

The series of events just flew from day 1 until on the 16th day of the month. It was me who truly enjoyed Madrid than the others for I immersed myself into the activities, nightlife and the culture it has offered for everybody to enjoy.

Travel to Madrid is more fun especially during festival or fiesta. The coming San Isidro Fiesta is another event to watch for this coming 15th of May. Of course, it is also in the month of May that the event of the famous bullfighting festival happens.

Saint Isidore Fiesta is an event to watch dances, concerts and fairs. It is also the time to document the popular tradition in which the faithful drink the miraculous water after a pilgrimage- this is referred to as romeria. So for the culture connoisseurs this is the time to visit Madrid and immerse yourself in a small slice of Spanish culture, first hand at that.
