There are actually mixed emotions on the transfer of Madrid’s heraldic symbol of the bear and the madroño tree early in the morning of 22nd of September. This symbol has been the backdrop of many of madrid’s tourists pictures for 25 years. The bear and the madroño tree equals the royal palace, plaza puerta, prado museum, plaza mayor and reina sofia in popularity.

The bear and madroño has actually returned to its original place from 1967 until 1984. Then madrid officials have changed the location due to traffic concerns during that time and Puerta del Sol has been under construction. Now, the original location welcomes back its new resident. Tourists though do not have to worry for the statue is only moved 50 meters away from its former location. The statue is now located in the end of the east part of Puerta del Sol.

Puerta del Sol tour is composed of so many landmarks and buildings besides the symbol of madrid. This part of Madrid has now become pedestrian-friendly. Thus, walking tours is really recommended. Most tourist head off to this part of Madrid for a more satiated Madrid tour.

President of Madrid’s office is located here. Many take pictures of the old building and of course the Charles III of Spain statue populalry known as ‘el rey alcalde’. Tio Pepe is also a famous brand of Sherry that has its store located in this part. Also do not forget to take pictures of kilometro cero considered as symbolic centre of the Spanish land.

The new home for El Oso y el Madroño in Puerta del Sol is not a stranger to the statue anymore..it is more of a homecoming. However many would still miss the former location of the heraldic symbol for it has already become part of many millions of pictures taken within 25 years.
