Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales - National Natural Science Museum
The National Natural Science Museum is Madrid s first building to be ever constructed using large quantities of glass and metal. Built in 1881, the building includes several sections that display numerous objects and stuffed animals that were found in deep jungles, caves and desserts.
The Museum is divided into two - the north and south wing. The north wing includes two permanent thematic exhibitions, where interesting exhibitions are displayed, called the Museum museum and At nature s rhythm.
Outside the north wing, you could see the open-air stone garden and curious trunks that were turned into stone.
The south wing is where the major event of the museum is held. The History of the Earth and Life displays the planet s constitution, including its rocks, minerals and detailed evolution and development of all living things.
One of the highlights in this museum is the Megaterium or the giant African elephant. Its strange look will surely captivate you once you have passed it by.
The Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales includes more than 5 million various specimens from all ages. However, majority of these collections are part of scientific researches and cannot be displayed publicly.
The museum is open from Tuesdays to Fridays from 10 am until 6 pm. Charged with a moderately priced admission fee, the National Natural Science Museum can be visited by riding the metro to the Nuevos Ministerios station.
