Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reine Sofía - Queen Sophia's National Art Centre Museum
During the 18 th century, this site was a public hospital. When it was renovated and reopened in 1990, it instantly became one of Madrid s popular centers for the arts. It is also considered one of Europe s most exhilarating centers for contemporary arts.
More than three thousand paintings were obtained from the older Contemporary Art Museum. However, only around 200 artworks are displayed one at a time.
The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reine Sofía highlights include the Surrealism, Dali and Picasso room - all of which exhibits famous paintings of various contemporary artists.
Also included in the museum is a cafeteria where visitors could freshen up and theaters with courses, lectures, music and readings.
The contemporary art gallery is open during Wednesday to Mondays from 10 am until 9 pm. There is an admission fee except on Sunday afternoons since it is only open until 2:30 pm.
You may visit the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reine Sofía via the railway or metro station going down to Atocha.
