Almost three centuries ago, this museum was built on the site of an ancient hospital. Today, it is located at the Fuencarral Street .
The superb exhibit displays various archeological sightings, ancient maps of Madrid , and old paintings by different artists. Because of these valuable presentations, one could trace the history of Madrid .
One highlight of the Museo Municipal is an antique landscape painting of the city. This particular painting presents Madrid as a greener city during the early years. Another prehistoric view of the city is an 1830 model that is extensively designed and built.
Another must see feature of the museum is a work by Pedro Ribera , who is one of the first-rate architects in the history of Madrid . His baroque-styled doorway with intricate details is an exceptional piece of art.
To visit the museum, you may ride the metro going to the Tribunal station. The Municipal Museum is open with a small admission fee (except on Wednesdays when everyone is free of charge), during Tuesdays to Fridays from 9:30 am until 8 pm.
