Museo del Prado - Prado Museum
One of Madrid s prides, the Prado Museum houses the world s largest collected works of Spanish art. An official National Monument, the Museo del Prado is certainly one of the city s leading attractions.
Completed in 1785 with a neoclassical design, the building used to be Charles III s center for learning natural sciences.
When it was damaged in the Succession Wars, it was restored and in 1819, opened publicly as a museum.
Housing the most extensive collections of artworks in the world, the Museo del Prado has approximately 7,000 paintings from celebrated artists such as Ruben, Brueghels, Titian, Goya and Greco.
With hundreds of well-known paintings, the museum s highlights include Bosch s Garden of Delights, Ruben s Three Graces and Raphael s Holy Family.
The Prado Museum s gallery is so enormous that one visit is not enough to grasp the beauty of Spanish art fully.
You may visit this impressive galley every Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9 am up to 7 pm and on Sundays from 9 am until 2 pm. Although there is an admission fee, the charge is well worth the experience.
If you wish to commute and visit the Prado gallery, you may ride the railway to either Recoletos or Atocha and you may ride the metro going to Banco de España.
