Museo Cerralbo

Museo Cerralbo - Cerralbo Museum

Marques de Cerralbo, when he died in 1922, donated his 19 th century palace to Madrid . The palace was filled with his private works of arts and the only condition with his donation was that the city should keep the place exactly as he left it.
Most of Cerralbo s works date back from 1884, with different kinds of art pieces including Japanese armours, sculptures, furniture, tapestries, artifacts and paintings of well-known artists such as The Ecstasy of St. Francis of Assisi by El Greco.
With an extravagant staircase that welcomes the guests as they enter the museum, each step inside the museum makes one feel like royalty.
On the Museo Cerralbo s ground floor, you will see some detailed clocks illuminated by crystal chandeliers inside the grand mirrored ballroom.
The museum is closed during the month of August and on public holidays. It is open, with a moderately priced fee, every Tuesdays up to Saturdays from 9:30 am until 7:30 pm. However, during Sundays and Wednesdays, the museum is open free of charge.
The Museo Cerralbo is located at Ventura Rodriguez Street near the West Park . You can visit this exceptional museum by riding the metro and going down either at Plaza de España or Ventura Rodriguez station.
