Originally, this site was the official ballroom place of the Royal Palace in Buen Retiro . When the Napoleonic group destroyed the site, Charles III ordered to rebuild it.
Today, the Cason del Buen Retiro is home to Prado s Spanish sculptures and paintings that date back to the 19 th century. It displays marvelous portraits created by Vicente Lopez such as Isabel de Braganza, Fernando VII and Maria Christina de Borbon.
Also included in the museum are works by Rusiñol and Sorolla. The highlight in the Cason del Buen Retiro consists of Jos de Madrzo s Death of Viriato, Eugenio Lucas Las Presidentas and Federico de Madrazo s Countess of Vilchess.
Only five minutes away from the Prado annex, the museum is free of charge once you have your Prado ticket.
It is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9 am to 7 pm and 9 am to 2 pm during Sundays. Although there is a moderately priced admission fee, it is free during weekend afternoons.
You may visit the Cason del Buen Retiro via the metro going to the Retiro station.
