The Virgin of La Almudena was supposedly brought to Spain by St. James and buried it inside a city wall when the Moors invaded the country. After two centuries, the wall fell and exposed the Virgin with the same-lit candles she originally was buried with. According to tradition, the Virgin Mary saved Madrid from a catastrophe in 1646. The main event of this festival is a mass that 10,000 people participate in.
