Beaches

Madrid is a non-coastal city. It is completely landlocked.
If you are after Spanish beaches, the closest resorts are located at the northern part of Spain ( San Sebastian and Bilbao ) and at the Eastern Spain ( Valencia ).
Listed below are the most visited beaches near Madrid . An adventurous joy ride away from Madrid will surely make your Spanish visit worthwhile.

BILBAO
Beaches Playa de Bakio is a tranquil and well-preserved beach where families and couples could spend their day without numerous people crowding them.
Playa de La Arena Muskiz is a well-known beach for Spain locals summer enjoyment. The resort includes a play area for children and a car park that has a capacity for around 2,500 cars.
Playas de Gorliz y Plentzia are two spacious and safe beach resorts. It is one of the most popular destinations for Spanish people during summer vacations. Gorliz has an amazing pine tree cultivated area where people could enjoy their shaded picnics. The Plentzia , however, takes pride in its fishing port, promenade and marina.
SAN SEBASTIAN

San Sebastian is famous for its Basque resorts. The city has three beaches - the Playa de Gros, Ondaretta and the Playa de la Concha .
Beaches Playa de Gros is quite deserted. Years ago, this place was a tourist spot with its clear water and great view. However, today it has become the major landing site of the city s pollution. So, it may not be safe to dive into the water.
The La Concha is beyond question, the prettiest of the three beaches. Although with its wide stretch of sand surrounding the bay, it may be crowded during summer seasons.
Ondaretta is almost as beautiful as La Concha and is less crowded. Many Spanish locals consider Ondaretta as the perfect swimming spot in San Sebastian. The ambiance is calmer than Ondaretta s bikini-party environment.

VALENCIA

Valencia beaches are separated by its harbor. The Northern harbor includes the Cabanal arena and the Malvarossa . These public resorts are full of life and cater to the youth majority. On the other hand, the Southern harbor is where you ll find the more peaceful resorts.
El Perellonet beach is an extension of a private residential beach zone. Majority of the people who have access to this resort own their private houses around the area.
Beaches Playa de la Devesa beach is located in the rural side of the city. It is isolated and is awarded the prestigious Blue Flag. The Blue Flag is a private eco-label awarded to around 3100 marinas and beaches in 35 countries across South Africa, New Zealand, the Caribbean, Canada and Europe in 2005.
Playa del Saler beach includes approximately 6 kilometers of first-rate golden sand. You can also visit the Valencia Reserve de la Albufera with just a few minutes walk from the resort. This beach has also been awarded a Blue Flag.
Playa de Lavante beach, which is also known as the Malvarrosa Beach , includes a swimming zone for handicapped people. This beach also has a Blue Flag and is one of Valencia s excellent urban beaches.

However, if you don t wish to go too far from Madrid and you only want the calmness of water, there are large artificial lakes in Retiro and Casa de Campo . Both of these parks offer rentals of pump boats and canoes that are best for sailing. You can also enjoy the natural ambiance of these parks since both of them have a vast green space and include numerous leisure events.
